Stock Your Closet With These for Spring 2015

Since New York Fashion Week has come to an end it’s time to reflect on all of the new trends that will fill our closets come next season.  While various current trends are carrying over to Spring 2015 such as crop tops and all-white ensembles, there are plenty of new trends to look forward to as well.

1. Culottes – This wide-leg cropped style was all over the runways this season.  The casual style was seen with crop tops or shirts tucked in.  The best part about these versatile bottoms is that you can basically wear them with any type of footwear!  Seen at: Nanette Lepore, Rebecca Taylor and Mara Hoffman.

2. Shirting – This menswear-inspired trend took off last season and is staying strong with crisp shirting appearing in many shows underneath dresses or classicly paired with trousers or skirts. Seen at: Thakoon, Michael Kors and The Row.

3. Cold Shoulder – Many designers are letting skin show this season, giving attention to bare shoulders.  Off-the-shoulder tops were HUGE on the runway and it gives us a break from the constant display of midriff skin! Seen at: Christian Siriano, Tibi and Jenny Packham

BCBG Max Azria Spring 2015

Kicking off #NYFW in the only way they know how, the designers at BCBG Max Azria set the tone (muted-tone, that is) for this ever-so-stylish week.  Combining pastels and whites with flowing, breezy dresses and subtle pops of painterly patterns, BCBG was all about the femininity of Spring dressing.  Dresses were loose except for some belts that were tied in an almost kimono-belt way.  Skirts and culottes were also oversize, light and flowing while tops had a geometric criss-cross cut at the neck.  The gorgeous subdued neutral (white/cream and blush) moto-jackets brought out the extent of any masculinity to the collection.  Loving all of these pieces was super difficult for many BCBG fans since this collection was already available to shop via the brand’s Instagram!  So cool!  See some of my favorite looks below.

Why Comfy-Chic Is In – Thanks Marc Jacobs!

If you’re like me, you’re still re-living NYFW in your head.  Why you ask?  I love the thought of knowing that once next fall comes around, comfy-chic is in!  Yes, Marc Jacobs confirmed it and I am all about it!  Long johns, knit sweaters and long, oversize everything is what his Fall 2014 collection encompasses.  (And yes, maybe a half-nude Kardashian too, but please she’s had enough press time devoted to her.)

While “comfort” may be in, this is still fashion week and there are still some glam-standards to uphold.  Marc Jacobs also incorporated shots of sparkle, ruffle and warm luxurious furs.  Needless to say, it still isn’t acceptable to walk out of the house in sweats (sorry) but Marc Jacobs is definitely letting us push that limit with this collection.

Fall 2014’s Hottest Colors

While I take a break from blogging about individual shows from New York’s Fashion Week, I still want to focus on the details of it!  A week before all of the shows started, Pantone announced their choices for the most popular colors for the Fall 2014 season.  So, did designers oblige by these hues or did they do as designers often do, and go in their own direction?  Let’s see if these colors trended throughout the shows of NYFW Fall 2014.

Though Misted Yellow was an apparent no-show in the Fall shows (even with all of the pastel), maybe it will have better luck come Spring Fashion week!

Suno Fall 2014

Suno is mostly known for it’s bright prints splashed onto their clothing.  However, their Fall 2014 collection proved to be a bit different than the norm.  While prints were still present, they were much more demure than the usual loud and bright patterns we’re used to seeing.  This collection actually consisted of a lot of black, white and gray with some tribal prints, polka dots and structured lines running across skirts, dresses and coats.

Suno-ites  also added some shine with metallic details.  Oversized, lace-up hooded ponchos were a staple in this collection as well as midi skirts and dresses with booties.  This was truly business casual done right with suit sets and the oxford-underneath-shorter-tops trend.  While not the norm, Suno definitely produced a solid collection!

Rag & Bone Fall 2014

Warm coats, Cosby sweaters, a little sheer and slouchy boots.  Each of these elements has nothing in common but when you think about it, they actually do work together.  Rag & Bone figured that out before everyone else and introduced it in their Fall 2014 show.   The collection definitely gave off a rugged, masculine vibe in dark colors that are perfect for dreary fall and winter months.

Add in the Fall 2014 trending fur, throw in prints and don’t forget the polished separates!  While Rag & Bone is one of the less flashy shows this season, completely devoid of metallic or sparkle (a popular trend popping up in many other collections), it still captures the perfect simple and minimalist style that devout Rag & Bone fans know and love.

Cushnie et Ochs Fall 2014

What do you get when you mix a cow-girl and a whole lot of skin?  You get the Fall collection from Cushnie et Ochs.  With low dips, high slits and exposed skin via lots of lace, let’s just say if your goal is to stay warm come next fall, you should probably stay away from this collection… or just buy a huge cozy jacket to wear over these exposed outfits.  Maybe they were going for a more Southern-weather climate (the cowboy hats?  Not sure about those..)?

cushnie cushnie2

cushnie3 cushnie4

I am basically in love with the great flared out shorter dresses that sauntered down the runway.  The jumpsuits, separates and longer gowns could be worn by a huge assortment of women – from the business woman to the red-carpet celebrity.  The colors stayed mostly on the dark side of things, except for the pop of  citrusy neon lime.  This whole collection encompasses true Cushnie et Ochs esthetic with cut-outs and ultra sexy looks.

Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2014

Rebecca Minkoff mixed soft and feminine with a bit of edge this season.  Think blush pink mixed with a little leather, even a bit of metallic and throw on a beanie and some great booties to face the cold winter weather.  Minkoff’s models strutted down the runway in oversize menswear-inspired clothing and dark vampy lips (so happy that trend is not going anywhere!).

reb reb2

reb3 reb4

This collection was not lacking the very popular fur trend this season.  Minkoff wrapped fur scarves around models necks while the rest of the outfits were quite simple – light and airy but with clean pinstripes.  The whole collection encompassed the true New York fashion girl and I can’t wait to get my hands on this collection – especially that cream, leather trimmed skirt.

Jason Wu Fall 2014

For a collection full of midnight-hues mixed with full-on silk, look no further than Jason Wu’s Fall 2014 collection.   In addition to gorgeous satiny gowns, Wu also served up some great separates and oversized coats.  Slip on any of these looks from the runway and you’ll turn into one fierce woman!

jasonwu jasonwu2

jasonwu3 jasonwu4

The thing I love most about this collection is that Wu managed to display very sexy looks while his models were covered almost head-to-toe in draped fabric.  Not many designers can pull that feat off! I’m banking on seeing pieces from this collection popping up all over the place (ahem, OSCARS!).

Kate Spade Fall 2014

I am a self-proclaimed girly-girl.  I love everything pink, sparkly and ultra-feminine.  The Kate Spade fall 2014 collection is basically my dream come true in clothing form.  Deborah Lloyd’s creations included sparkle embellishments (and those glittery heels!! omg!!), leopard coats and feathers galore.  I truly cannot pick a favorite look from this collection.

kate kate2

kate3 kate4

This collection was not lacking any warmth either!  Designers all seemed to jump on the fur and fuzzy bandwagon and this collection from Kate Spade is no different with furry bags, hats and scarves.   Stay warm and cozy and look like a totally chic modern-day Audrey Hepburn?  Don’t mind if I do!
